This is just one more damning aspect of the PlayStation 5 launch line-up, a line-up consisting of games that are either not exclusive or also coming out on the PS4. Changing that now makes it something they have to reconcile rather than something they can just enjoy. The fact of the matter is that Marvel's Spider-Man is already an experience most fans have had. This version of Peter was more relatable and felt more faithful to the version that had been loved in comics for years.
After years of games that were hampered by rushed development cycles and teams biting off more they could chew with an open-world, Marvel's Spider-Man presented gamers with a version of Peter that they'd wanted for years. Even with the claim that Jordan's performance is a better match for Lowenthal's voice over, it doesn't change that fans have already grown attached to this version of Peter Parker. The result is a Parker that looks far younger than the game's version, who was poised to be in his early-20s. While the facial model does look spot on for Jordan, it also looks like elements of Spider-Man: Far from Home actor Tom Holland's face were incorporated into the design, as if they were trying to mimic the popular MCU actor's face. However, there's some weird work done with the facial model, giving it an overly smooth appearance that is jarring, to say the least. That doesn't explain, though, why this Peter Parker looks so obnoxiously young.īen Jordan is young, sure, and appears even to be a few years younger than Bubniak. While a reason isn't given for why they opted to recast in the first place, Sony stated that the new actor, Ben Jordan, provides a better match for the facial capture data from Lowenthal's performance. Peter's face was modeled using motion capture data from Lowenthal's voice over sessions and a model based on Bubniak's likeness to create a modern Parker interpretation that fans loved.įor the sake of the remaster, though, Sony and Insomniac Games opted to recast the motion capture actor. Lowenthal has been the definitive Spider-Man voice actor for a while now, voicing the character in the 2014 video game adaptation of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as well as longtime Spider-Man friend (and foe) Curt Connors on Disney XD's Marvel's Spider-Man.
